Last weekend saw the Blackthorne team compete in the annual Round The Island yacht race. This an annual event has been taking place since the 1930s. With over 1300 yachts and more than 10,000 crew it is the 4th largest sports participation event in the UK. The race starts and finishes in Cowes, Isle of Wight, whereby crews must circle the island counter clockwise, a 50 mile route. Blackthorne finished in an adjusted time of 9 hours 50 minutes putting them in 428th place overall, exactly 100 better than last year. The leading boat, which incidentally broke the record by one minute, finished in 2 hours and 22 minutes which, under sail, is quite staggering.
